The biggest fear a client has is the threat of having their gemstones swopped. The fingerprint of the gemstone will stand up in a court law and one would be able to prove conclusively whether it is the same stone or not.

TANZANITE FILTER FOR SALE – R360
The filter consists of three filters. Two polaroids and one coloured filter. The tanzanite when viewed under tungsten lighting through the one polaroid you will see a bluish colour and through the other filter a reddish violet colour. This is characteristic of tanzanite. Through the coloured filter, tanzanite will appear red. It is important to get the two different colours and the red colour for it to pass as tanzanite.

Gem Identification of all Gemstones
Synthetic and artificially treated gemstones are passing through the trade undetected. A synthetic gemstone has the same chemical composition as the natural stone and is optically and physically the same. A gemmologist is the only person who can distinguish between the two by studying inter alia growth patterns and inclusions. Fee ranges from R250 per stone (minimum fee) depending on the tests that have to be done to identify the stone. The large passport size Gem ID with photograph starts from R370 per stone. For large parcels of gemstones – R120 per stone if straight forward. If mine testing is required we will give you a quote before going ahead. Parcels of rough gemstones is based on R1800 per hour.

Full Coloured Stone Reports
Like a diamond, it’s easier to sell a certified coloured stone. This gives the buyer peace of mind that it has been checked and graded by a qualified gemmologist. The fees charged depend on the species of gemstone. You can download the 2020 price list here.

COLOURED STONE GRADING
We use the ICSL coloured stone grading system which has proved itself to be the most efficient and user-friendly coloured stone grading system since 1982. Many large laboratories around the world use this system. It is the most consistent system I have ever come across. Ian Campbell who developed the system introduced the FINAL GRADE which relates directly to price. For more information on this system click here

The client may want to know why a stone broke or looks different. This is a scientific study and I believe only two of us offer this service in South Africa.
Audio Visual Training Presentations
A presentation can be arranged to suit your needs. Whether it is to give your staff a practical presentation on the 4C’s which could include how to answer questions about “’Blood Diamonds” or the Kimberley Process”. Presentations can be any length of time, we can cover any subject of your choice relating to gemstones. You may want to include a presentation to your clients on a cheese and wine evening. The minimum fee for a presentation is only R570 inclusive of VAT.
